Intellicad
was originally developed by Visio as an Aut*CAD clone. It claims to have
DWG and DXF compatibility thru R14. It also uses the same LISP and scripting
as Aut*CAD. Solids are not part of the base package with Intellicad(I've been
told that they can be added with the Briscnet version), but they were not
standard with Aut*cad either. Intellicad does come with complete 3D surfaces
to make anyone right at home in minutes.
Intellicad has Since taken on a life of it's own.
Released under the care of the Intellicad Technilogical Consortium it is neither
true open source or completely closed and proprietary. Different members of the
Consortium offer releases similar to the "Distributions" common in the Linux
world. Two of the more popular ones are
Bricsnet and
CADopia. I used the free Download from
CADopia for my tests.
I have two how-tos. The first i've renamed to cad-how-to.txt.
This was the how-to for icad 2000, but it also works for all the other apps
that i run with Wine on linux. The second is a new (alpha) how-to i'm working on for
Intellicad 2001. It can be found here

TrueSpace for Intellicad is a Special version of Caligari's TrueSpace NURBS modeler. It has been modified so that it's models can be used by Intellicad with DWG and DXF compatibility. TrueSpace includes a full set of tools in addition to NURBS geometry it also can perform Boolean operations, materials, textures, lights, Rendering, and keyframe animation. Speed was reasonable, as long as the model remained small. As always, I would recomend trying the demo first to make sure it suits your needs, but it is definately functional. |
